On Friday, July 13, we had our second concert at the Bistro and it was certainly a highlight of the time here so far. Halloway, an 80 year old saxophonist, plays both jazz and the blues with equal skill, but he is also one of the most talented story tellers I've ever heard. Armed with quick, sharp, and often slightly risque sense of humor, he told us about growing up in Arkansas picking cotton, moving to Chicago, running a club in Los Angeles, eating catfish, buying tailored pants in Switzerland, being married three times, and of course, playing music.
He has had a trulyl incredibly career playing with Dexter Gordon, Lionel Hampton, Jack McDuff, Billie Holiday, Ben Webster, Sonny Rollins, and Lester Young. Best music I've heard so far!
