Busch Stadium II

In addition to my wife Laurie, a devoted baseball fan, this post is dedicated to all those interested in baseball, in particular, pops, Tim, and Andrew, and Steffs--who is planning a trip out to St. Louis in part to see the Cards play in their new home. It is a great ballpark--they won the World Series in their inaugural season.

However, they wound up losing to the San Francisco Giants (7-6) but it was a very entertaining game with a lot of runs, errors and boos directed to a certain out fielder.

This memorial to announcer Jack Buck plays his voice making historic calls. His presence is still deeply felt in the city as evidenced by the notes and flowers left nearby.

I found it interesting that the Cards fans were quite vocal in their disapproval of Barry Bonds while the cannonized Mark McGuire is still lauded. There are pictures of Mark in nearly every corner with a big 70.

The author makes his first appearance.

T.J.,

Are their memorials to Ozzie Smith?

I can remember going to many, many Phillies / Cards games in the late 1980s with my Dad and brothers.

For me, the main highlight at Veterans' Stadium at those games was neither Steve Jeltz, nor Von Hayes; neither Kevin Gross, nor Juan Samuel; neither Lance Parrish, nor Kent Tekulve; and not even Michael Jack Schmidt, whose career was trailing off.

For me, it was always to see Ozzie Smith a/k/a "The Wizard," whose glove was as golden as anybody I've ever seen play.

To me, McGwire will always be an Oakland A, lumped together in my with Jose Canseco, Dave Stewart, and Tony LaRussa.

Pictures are great - certainly not losing an extra moment to sleep.

Keep 'em coming. Andrew enjoyed the shots of the stadium as well.

Tom, there are a bunch of little statues out front of the stadium that commemorate outstanding Cardinals of the past. Indeed, there is an Ozzie who is making a diving catch. Still, the statue is very small--maybe three feet--and paced on a small pedastal so it is about eye level. It is nothing like the giant statues of Schmiddy, Carlton, Ashburn that greet you at Citizen's Bank park.

The only large statue is one for Stan Musial.

No McGwire. And it is interesting you mention LaRussa as an A and not a Cardinal--as he is the one who effectively benched Ozzie and ended his career.
